13 QUESTIONS TO ME
1. If you are in school (or have been in school), have you ever pulled any all-nighters?
Yes. My freshman year I could do all nighters on the regular. I did a few my sophomore year and then something in my body changed and suddenly in my junior year, I couldn't do allnighters.
2. Do you have something (a song, item; etc.) that is like a symbol for you (like mine was the blue rose)?
Right now my mascot is a little Funko figurine of Sarah Kerrigan from Star Craft. She is my reminder to adapt to different situations (which is difficult for me) and to view life as a bigger picture than my current circumstances .
3. Do you have a favorite book? What is it?
I love love love The Never-ending story (Go! Read it now!) . It has so much heart and it was written specifically for people who love stories because it is about the love of stories. If you liked Inkheart (the book, not the movie) you will love The Never-ending Story.
4. If you could live anywhere in the world, where would it be and why?
Iceland. It is so quiet. I love it.
If you could cosplay (dress up as) any character, who would it be?
If  I knew I could execute it correctly, I would definitely cosplay as Miss Edel from Princess Tutu.
5. Would you go to a con as the character listed above? Why or why not?
Yes. That costume would take so much work, it would be a shame not to show it off. On the other hand, that wig would get cumbersome, so I would probably cosplay for a day and then go out of costume the next day in more comfy clothes.
6. Forested glade or beach?
Beach. Let's get real; there are bugs in that forest glade.
7. What is your biggest fetish (kind of the opposite of a pet peeve I guess?)?
In the words of Inigo Montoya, "That word you keep using. I do not think it means what you think it means".  Anyway, I'll answer in line with your intent. Um. Probably dressing up. Anytime I can find an excuse to wear a formal dress, I will. It makes me feel amazing.
8. Typing out a story or writing it out on paper?
Which ever I have on hand. Sometimes scraps of paper are all I have and so I just have a wad of repurposed church bulletins in my purse should the muse be persistent. Typing goes faster though, so I'm less likely to get half way through a thought and forget where it was going.
9. Speaking from an artistic standpoint, who/what are some of your biggest inspiration for your work?
Pfft. I don't know. I just try to convey the beauty of the small in both space and time.
10. Do you like video games?  If so, which ones?
Okay. Civilization 5 is currently taking over my life and I don't even know why. There isn't much plot. I'm just trying to take over the world through military might and technological advances. My favorite video game is Myst. It was the first one I played that wasn't made for kids. My grandma gave us Grandpa's Windows 98 and I found my late father's old copy of the game and it was like stepping back (at that time) a decade and having a very time consuming adventure.
11. Mansion or log cabin?
Mansion. Both require a lot of upkeep, but I would prefer a place that could house all my friends.
12. Do your characters have things/songs that symbolize/say something about their personalities?
I don't think they do. I had some characters that I worked on a while back and they had playlists dedicated to them, but I think the girls are more difficult to pin down.
13. What is your favorite art medium (graphite, acrylics, watercolor, digital; etc.)
I'm really getting to like markers, but photography is my favorite.

13 QUESTIONS FOR YOU

1. What is your favorite scent?
2. What song embodies who you wish you could be?
3. Do you have a favorite dinosaur/extinct animal?
4. If someone made a scary movie meant to scare you as an individual, where would it be set and why?
5. What is the best sound in the world?
6. What is your least favorite Disney movie?
7. Have you broken any bones?
8. What movie makes you cry every time you watch it?
9.What is your favorite character from a stage play/musical?
10. What is your birthstone? Do you like it?
11. Mac or PC?
12. What does the word "home" mean to you?
13. Favorite fantasy book series that isn't The Chronicles of Narnia or The Lord of the Rings?

As I told you all in my last journal, (That was in March? Wow, I'm lazy!) I am planning on cosplaying Sojiro Seta at a con early next year. Well, I finally bought the fabric and I'm ready to begin putting together one of my first sewing projects. I'll be making a kimono and hakama. I'm starting the project this early because I am living with my grandmother at the moment and she provides me with a sewing machine. I won't have this technology when I leave for school and I won't be able to come back home until Christmas. Anyhow, I'll try and keep you guys updated on my progress. Any advice from seasoned cosplayers/seamstresses is welcome. Wish me luck!

All the best,

Lauran

Yesterday I experienced my very first con. Conooga is a multi-fandom convention. That means one might see a group like mine, Toboe from Wolf's Rain with a bunch of TF2 mercenaries (both red and blue), and it might mean that Medic wants a picture with a Star Wars character. I had so much fun meeting all the people who were there. I learned a lot on this maiden cosplay voyage and thought it would be good to share some of the lessons I learned. Keep in mind that I went to a small con. Some of these may not apply to larger cons. Lesson number one: If you only have one day, make sure you know ahead of time how you want to spend it. Even at a small con, there are tons of places to go. I could have spent all day listening to panels, playing boardgames with fellow board game enthusiasts, spending money at all the vendors, or chased down all the characters I wanted pictures with. Mainly I chose the last two. Lesson two: the people gather where the vendors are. If you want to glomp and be glomped, go to where merchandise is being sold. By the way, even though the vendors are trying to sell their wares, they came here for the love of fandom as well. Even if you don't want to spend money, a lot of artists will appreciate your comments on their work. Lesson three: Don't be upset if nobody recognizes you. It's okay. Interest comes and goes in any game, anime, movie, or comic book. Maybe this wasn't a big year for your fandom. Then again, maybe your fanbase is small to begin with. Either way, if you don't get recognized, don't let it get you down. You might even get an opportunity to expand the fanbase by meeting people who ask questions about your costume.

I had such a blast yesterday and can't wait for next year. Who will I be cosplaying? If all goes well, Sojiro Seta. Don't know who that is? I encourage you all to go check out Rurouni Kenshin to find out. Shameless plug aside, I can't wait to begin working on a more challenging costume.  Any advice on the making of hakama pants is welcome by the way.

Much love!k

A first for me!

1 min read
This week is getting me so excited. I'll be going to my very first con on the 2nd. I'm super excited to cosplay Toboe from Wolf's Rain. I just did a test run and I am so happy with what I achieved. I didn't do everything from scratch because this is my first time. I have, however, discovered the many magical properties of duct tape and plan on being close friends with this wonder product. What makes me even more happy about the whole thing is that my stuffed dog, Charity gets to cosplay as Toboe with me. She gets her own bracelets and everything! The best part, of course is the fact that I will be cosplaying alongside good friends.

I wish you all a very happy week

For this journal entry, I'm going to write without planning out my thoughts ahead of time. It's how I make conversation too. Here goes.

Steam. On a window from blue lips hungry for love and the fireplace behind glass inhibitor. She will watch the children run past her own little hell on the corner of Ninth and Willow. They will laugh. Not at her. Just in front of her. Out of her heart's reach. The brick touches her spine roughly. It is not forgiving. It is not merciful. So is the world she lives in. Someone will teach her that if love exists it is for those who can pay its price. She has had too much bad luck to gamble with her soul tonight. She knows when to stop. And when to breathe steam on windows.
